Benefits of the University of Silesia Scholarships Programs 2024-2025
Receiving a scholarship from the University of Silesia can significantly impact a student’s academic and personal life. Scholarships help cover tuition fees, living expenses, and other educational costs, reducing the financial stress on students and their families. By receiving scholarships, students can avoid or minimize taking out loans, resulting in less debt after graduation. With financial concerns gone, students can focus more on their studies and academic achievements. Scholarships often provide additional funds for research materials, books, and other educational resources, enhancing the learning experience. Let's have a look at what scholarships are being offered at the University of Silesia.
#1 Social Scholarship
The scholarship amount is determined by the Rector in consultation with the Student Government at the end of October for the winter semester and in March for the summer semester. The student's financial situation is assessed based on the monthly net income per family member. In special cases, a student may receive an increased social scholarship, particularly if the student is a complete orphan or aged out of foster care.
#2 Scholarship for people with disabilities
A scholarship for disabled students can be awarded based on a disability confirmed by an official decision from the competent authority. Students must apply for this benefit through the USOSweb website by the 10th of each month. If the application is submitted by the 10th, the scholarship will also cover the month in which the application was made. Applications submitted after the 10th will be processed for the following month, without retroactive payment for the previous month. The dean or deputy dean, authorized by the rector, makes decisions regarding the awarding of this scholarship.
#3 Chancellor's Scholarship
A student may apply for a scholarship in only one field of study and at one university, based on their submitted application. The awarding of the rector's scholarship is dependent on the student's position on the ranking list. Separate ranking lists are created for each field of study, encompassing all years, forms of study, and levels of education. Each year, the Rector determines the percentage of students eligible for a scholarship no more than 10% of students in a given field, and the monthly scholarship amount, considering the university's financial capabilities. The scholarship amount may be adjusted for the summer semester.
#4 Financial Aids & Grants
A student experiencing a temporarily difficult life situation may receive aid. Such situations include conditions e.g., material, family, social, and health affecting the student's family and causing temporary difficulty in meeting material needs. Specific causes for this aid may include illness, accident, or death of an immediate family member, or damage caused by events like theft, fire, natural disaster, or catastrophe. This aid is granted upon the student's request, is a one-time benefit, and cannot be awarded more than twice in an academic year.
